Divorce

What do I do: If I believe that my parents are considering a divorce?

  1. Talk to your parents about your concerns in a calm manner. Don’t yell at them, but honestly tell them why you are concerned and how the concern is affecting you.
  2. Find someone that you can trust to talk to about your feelings.
  3. Be aware that your parents may be under a lot of stress that may cause them to say or do things out of frustration that is aimed at their spouse. These things are not likely aimed at you so remember that they can still love you, even if they are unhappy in their marriage. It is very important, however, that you remain safe. If violence is part of your parents’ struggles then talk to someone outside of the home about your fears and concerns. If you believe that you are in immediate danger cal 9-1-1.
