Nowhere To Go
What do I do: I want a Christian Perspective
When people have no place to go, they feel abandoned, uncared for, neglected, tossed aside, and worthless. We all need a place to belong and we all should have a home that helps us to feel like we are welcomed and loved. You may not have a physical home right now, but God wants you to know that you are not abandoned by Him. God say that He will never leave you, or turn his back on you (Hebrews 13:5). He cares deeply for you and would never toss you aside. The writer of Psalm 27:10 states that “For my father and my mother have forsaken me, but he Lord will take me up”. Jesus Christ himself was homeless for awhile (Matthew 8:20). God loves you and desires to bring you fully into a relationship with himself. The only way that this can happen is through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. This is the greatest way that God has shown his love: by taking us into His family and giving us a place to belong, to love others, and to be loved by others.
This place of belonging is called the church. The church is much more than just the building that you see as you drive by. It is actually made up of people who accept the gift of God and trust Jesus as their savior and lord. It is here that God wants his people to reach out and help those who need help. In your case, the church must be willing to help you in your homelessness. God is clear that the church has the responsibility to care for those who cannot care for themselves (Matthew 25:31-46). The church cannot help you, however, if you cannot trust them enough to reach out and let you need be known. Maybe you have attended a church in the past or you know of someone who goes to church. This is a good place to start looking for real help.
If you have more questions about how God wants to help you, visit your local church and talk to the youth pastor or call the HopeLine at 1-800-394-HOPE.
