Sexual Abuse

What do I do: If I am currently in an abusive situation?

If you believe that you are in danger of being abused (sexually or physically) within the next 24 hours call 9-1-1. Inform the police of your concerns and give them whatever information that they need to keep you safe.

If you are involved in a relationship with a friend, relative, parent, guardian, or any other person who has been sexually abusing you then it is very important that you tell someone about the abuse and that you stay away from the abuser. In some cases, staying away is not possible, but telling someone about the abuse is possible. It is best if you can tell an authority figure such as a police officer, teacher, counselor, or minister. Call 9-1-1 if you need to, they should take the information and seek to help you. Don’t allow anyone to manipulate or talk you into not telling. Abusers almost always try to scare their victims into not telling. If you fear for your physical safety or the safety of others, then calling the police is the best first step.
