How Do I Live With A Step-Parent?

What do I do: I want a Christian Perspective

God’s plan for families is that mom and dad stay together forever. However, because of the choices that some parents make, or because of certain life events, step-families are a reality. God wants everyone to honor their parents and to obey them as well (Ephesians 6:1-3). What this means for step-families is that in order to honor your parent, you need to work hard to adjust to the new situation.

During these stressful times, God wants you to rely upon Him for strength and direction.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your path” (Proverbs 3:5-6)
God wants you to live in peace with everyone, including your step-parent.
“If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.” (Romans 12:18)
God understands the emotions that you are experiencing. His greatest desire is that you trust Him fully and follow His plans for your life. This all begins with a relationship with Jesus Christ.
“Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet was without sin. Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” (Hebrews 4:14-16)
