Sasha has low self-esteem issues. Her dad’s never been there for her and she can’t hold a relationship. All these things are affecting her self-esteem. Dawson reassures her, she will be alright. You have to take life one day at a time.
SASHA (JOPLIN, MO) QUESTION:
Sasha: I’ve had some really bad self-esteem issues for a really long time.
DAWSON MCALLISTER’S ANSWER:
Dawson: I wonder where you got them.
Sasha: I’m not sure.
Dawson: They just seem to creep up on us.
Sasha: I don’t know. My dad’s never been there for me.
Dawson: BINGO! Just think, if your father had been there every day, saying, “Sasha, you’re daddy’s girl. You are beautiful. You are wonderful. You’re bright. I’m going to spend time with you because I’m your dad and I love you.” You probably wouldn’t have as many of these issues, would you?
Sasha: Ha, no.
Dawson: But as they say in the world, it is what it is and I’m sorry, but you have low self-esteem. What is it that worries you the most? Are you afraid there’s no one out there for you? Why would you think something like that?
Sasha: I can’t hold a relationship at all.
Dawson: A couple of things strike me here. I’m not sure, having a boyfriend is the ultimate evidence that you are a wonderful person on the right road to life. Sasha, it’s going to be alright. When your heart starts talking to you about: “I’m a loser. I don’t have a boyfriend. Blah, blah.” You say, “Wait a minute.” Your head kicks in and says, “Wait a minute, heart, I’m young. I have a long way to go and I’m going to live this one day at a time.”
